Spot repair is the method used when damage affects only a small area: instead of painting the whole panel from edge to edge, the work is confined to the damaged area and its immediate surroundings. Stone chips, parking scrapes, knocks on door edges and dents a few centimetres across are typical applications for this system. The area is feather-edged, prepared with finishing filler and a fast-drying primer, and then merged into the surrounding original paintwork by blending the basecoat and clear coat.
The most critical stage of the system is the blend zone. The overspray that forms along the clear coat edge is dissolved with Blending (Fade-out) Thinner, giving a transition that leaves no visible edge line; compounding and polishing then bring the repair area up to the same gloss as the surrounding paintwork. Working on a small area saves material, labour and baking time, shortens the time the vehicle spends in the workshop and makes spot repair worthwhile for both the technician and the vehicle owner.
For mixing ratios, drying and flash-off times, refer to each product's own Technical Data Sheet.
Surface Cleaning
Remove all grease, silicone and polish residues from the repair area and the surrounding blend area. Apply the thinner with one cloth and wipe it dry with a second, clean cloth before it evaporates.
Sanding and Feather-Edging
Open up the damaged spot with P120 and gradually feather the surrounding paint edges with P150. Keep the bare metal area as small as possible and remove the sanding dust.
Fine Filling
Mix the filler thoroughly with 2–3% by weight of the hardener supplied in the pack and apply it in thin layers. Once dry, level with P150–P180 and finish with P240.
Primer
Cover the filled area and any exposed metal with thin coats, allowing each coat to flash off to matt before applying the next, and sand the dry primer with P400–P500. Where more fill is needed, use 4+1 Acrylic Primer Filler instead.

Basecoat
Scuff the blend area with P800–P1000 abrasive or a grey scuff pad and clean it. Apply the colour-matched basecoat to the primed area first, extend the blend progressively outwards with each subsequent coat and allow it to flash off to a matt finish.
Clear Coat
Mix the clear coat with 2K MS Hardener (ZN-430) and Acrylic Thinner (ZN-510) and apply 2 coats, extending beyond the basecoat area. For jobs that call for higher gloss and film thickness, 2K Acrylic HS Clear Coat mixed with 2K HS Hardener (ZN-440) can be used.

Blending (Fade-out)
Immediately after the final clear coat, while it is still wet, spray 1–2 thin coats of Blending (Fade-out) Thinner onto the blend edge at low pressure. This dissolves the clear coat overspray at the edge so that it merges with the existing clear coat.
Compounding and Polishing
Once the clear coat is fully dry, lightly remove dust nibs and imperfections with P1500–P3000. Polish first with a coarse compound and then with a fine one to bring the blend zone up to the same gloss as the surrounding paintwork.
Because the work area is smaller, preparation, drying and baking times are shorter and the vehicle leaves the workshop sooner.
Filler, primer, basecoat and clear coat are applied only where they are needed, so consumption is noticeably lower than when painting the whole panel.
The factory paint on undamaged areas is left untouched, which helps to protect the vehicle's resale value.
Dissolving the clear coat edge with Blending (Fade-out) Thinner, followed by compounding and polishing, makes the repair area hard to tell apart from the surrounding paintwork.
