Fillers

From deep dents to fine skim coats, the right filler for every kind of damage.

Two-component polyester body fillers, finishing fillers and special-purpose fillers for steel, galvanised steel, aluminium and GRP surfaces.

The quality of a bodywork repair starts with the filler layer beneath the paint. The Zenova polyester filler series offers formulations individually optimised for every situation encountered in the workshop, from quickly filling deep dents to covering fine surface imperfections.

All our fillers are two-component and cure with the BPO hardener paste supplied in the pack. Thanks to their thixotropic structure, they do not sag on vertical surfaces, form a non-porous film and are easy to work without clogging the abrasive paper. Options with special resins for surfaces where adhesion is difficult, such as galvanised steel and aluminium, glass-fibre-reinforced structural fillers and lightweight products based on microsphere technology are all part of the same series.

The right choice of filler depends on the depth of the damage, the type of surface and how quickly the job needs to be done. The technical data and application steps on the product pages have been prepared to make your choice easier.

  • Thixotropic structure

Does not sag on vertical surfaces and holds its shape even in thick layers.

  • Easy sanding

A formulation that does not clog the paper noticeably shortens labour time.

  • Wide surface compatibility

Dedicated formulations for steel, galvanised steel, aluminium and GRP.

  • Non-porous film

Creates a smooth, pinhole-free base that is ready for primer.

How does polyester filler cure?

Polyester fillers consist of an unsaturated polyester resin, a reactive monomer (usually styrene) and mineral fillers. When the BPO (benzoyl peroxide) hardener paste supplied in the pack is mixed in, free-radical polymerisation begins and the filler sets within a few minutes.

BPO hardener is an organic peroxide: keep it away from heat, avoid skin contact and wear gloves. Environment, health and regulatory guide

  • Resin and filler balance

Mineral fillers such as talc determine sandability and filling power. Glass-fibre reinforcement increases structural strength, while microspheres reduce weight.

  • The right hardener ratio

2–3% BPO by weight is recommended. Too much leads to peroxide staining and brittleness; too little leaves a surface that stays soft and clogs the abrasive paper.

  • Exothermic reaction

Curing releases heat. Applying thin layers instead of a single thick one reduces internal stress, shrinkage and pore formation.

  • Effect of temperature

In the cold the reaction slows down; in the heat pot life becomes shorter. Technical values are given for 20 °C; the filler and surface temperature must not fall below 10 °C.

Frequently asked

Questions about Fillers

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about this product group.

Which filler should I choose?

We recommend ZN-110 Universal Polyester Filler for general filling, ZN-120 Fibreglass Filler for deep and structural damage and ZN-130 Soft Finishing Filler for the final skim coat. On galvanised steel, ZN-170 Galva Filler is the right choice, and on parts exposed to heat, ZN-160 Aluminium Filler.

What should the hardener ratio be?

For polyester fillers, the typical ratio is 2–3% BPO hardener by weight. Too much hardener causes staining and pinholes; too little results in a soft film that cannot be sanded.

Can filler be applied directly to bare metal?

Yes. Zenova polyester fillers can be applied directly to bare steel that has been cleaned and keyed with P80 abrasive. Polyester filler must not be applied over 1K primer or etch primer.
