Overview

What is 2K MS Hardener?

ZN-430 2K MS Hardener is an aliphatic isocyanate-based hardener optimised for medium-solids (MS) clear coat and paint systems. In the Zenova system it is paired with ZN-320 2K Acrylic MS Clear Coat and used at 2 : 1 by volume. Its reactivity is tuned to the solids structure and solvent balance of MS formulations, preserving both the ease of application and the final film properties of the clear coat.

ZN-430 keeps the clear coat open for long enough after spraying for it to flow out evenly; this ideal flow reduces orange peel and helps to achieve a smooth surface. Thanks to its optimum drying speed, the film becomes dust-free within a reasonable time without increasing the risk of runs, and is ready for assembly after short bake cycles. The result is performance that strikes the commercial balance between speed and quality that busy repair shops expect.

To mix, add 1 part by volume of ZN-430 to 2 parts of ZN-320 and thin with 10% ZN-510 Acrylic Thinner. As ZN-430 is tuned to MS formulations, it must be used with ZN-320 and not with ZN-310 or ZN-330. Before using it with other MS paint systems, we recommend confirming compatibility with the Zenova technical support team. Protecting the container from moisture is critical to maintaining the hardener's performance.

Application

Step-by-step application

The recommended application sequence for a professional result.

  1. 01

    Preparation

Stir the ZN-320 thoroughly in its tin; before opening the hardener tin, clean any dust and dirt from around the lid.

  2. 02

    Measuring

In a graduated mixing cup, add 1 part by volume of ZN-430 to 2 parts of ZN-320; never judge the ratio by eye.

  3. 03

    Thinning and mixing

Add 10% ZN-510 Acrylic Thinner, stir until the mixture is uniform and strain it into the spray gun.

  4. 04

    Use within the pot life

Apply the mixture within approximately 2 h at 20 °C. In hot weather, prepare the mixture in small batches.

  5. 05

    Closing the container

Immediately after use, clean the rim of the tin and close the lid tightly; never leave the product open in a humid environment.

Storage and safety

  • Reacts with atmospheric moisture: keep the container tightly closed; do not use product that has turned cloudy, formed sediment or gelled.
  • Store in the original container at 5–25 °C in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.
  • Flammable liquid: keep away from naked flames and sources of sparks; ensure good ventilation during use.
  • Contains isocyanates; may cause an allergic reaction. Wear suitable respiratory protection, chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection; refer to the product's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full details.

Frequently asked

Questions about 2K MS Hardener

What is the difference between ZN-430 and ZN-420?

Both products are aliphatic isocyanate-based, but their reactivity and solvent balance are tuned to the clear coat they are paired with. ZN-420 is optimised for the standard ZN-310 clear coat, while ZN-430 is optimised for the medium-solids ZN-320 clear coat. Use the correct pairing for the best flow and drying results.

My hardener has turned cloudy. Can I still use it?

No. Cloudiness, sediment or gelling show that the hardener has reacted with moisture. Product in this condition impairs the drying, gloss and durability of the clear coat; it must not be used and should be disposed of in accordance with current regulations.

How does hot weather affect pot life?

As the temperature rises, the curing reaction speeds up and the pot life shortens. Mix only as much as you need and do not leave it standing in direct sunlight. For advice on choosing a slower-evaporating thinner for hot weather, contact the Zenova technical support team.
