Overview

What is 3-in-1 Filler?

ZN-150 3-in-1 Filler is a two-component polyester filler that brings together, in a single hybrid formula, operations normally carried out with three separate products in the workshop. Strong filling capacity, fine finishing quality and the bridging ability of glass fibre are combined in the same filler. An optimised resin system and micro-fibre reinforcement balance these three functions without compromising any of them.

Because a smooth final surface can be achieved with the same filler once deep dents have been filled, most repairs no longer need a separate coat of soft filler. The micro fibres bridge small holes and cracks without making sanding harder; the filler shapes evenly without clogging the paper. Fewer product changes, less waiting and fewer sanding steps shorten repair times and increase workshop productivity.

ZN-150 is a practical solution for businesses that want to reduce the range of fillers in the workshop and simplify stock management. For large holes and tears, ZN-120 Fibreglass Filler should be used; for galvanised surfaces, ZN-170 Galva Filler; and for panels exposed to heat, ZN-160 Aluminium Filler. After sanding, the surface is prepared for the paint system with ZN-210 4+1 Acrylic Primer Filler or ZN-220 5+1 HS Acrylic Primer.

Application

Step-by-step application

The recommended application sequence for a professional result.

  1. 01

    Surface preparation

Sand the repair area with P80 and feather the surrounding paint with P120–P150 to a smooth transition. Clean the surface with ZN-530 Surface Cleaning Thinner.

  2. 02

    Mixing

Add 2–3% BPO hardener by weight; mix by folding and pressing, without trapping air, until the colour is uniform.

  3. 03

    Filling

Press the first coat firmly onto the substrate and fill deep areas at no more than 4 mm per coat. On small holes and cracks, draw the filler from the edges towards the centre to form a bridge.

  4. 04

    Finishing coat

Apply the final coat thin and even with the same filler, bringing the surface close to its final form without switching to a separate finishing filler.

  5. 05

    Drying

Ready to sand after 20–30 min at 20 °C, or after 3–5 min with short-wave IR. Curing takes longer at low temperatures.

  6. 06

    Sanding and priming

Shape with P80–P120 and finish with P180–P240. After dry sanding, clean the surface and apply ZN-210 4+1 Acrylic Primer Filler.

Storage and safety

  • Store in the closed original packaging at 5–25 °C in a dry, well-ventilated place.
  • Shelf life in unopened packaging is typically 12 months; close opened tins tightly after use.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight, heat and naked flames. The BPO hardener paste contains organic peroxide: protect it from heat and never dip a spreader contaminated with hardener into the filler tin.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area when mixing and sanding; wear gloves, safety goggles and at least an FFP2 dust mask. Always consult the product's Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Frequently asked

Questions about 3-in-1 Filler

Can I really do without a separate soft filler?

In most everyday repairs, yes. When the final coat is applied thin and even, ZN-150 gives a smooth surface that is ready for primer. We recommend adding a thin coat of ZN-130 Soft Finishing Filler only for dark metallic colours with a very low tolerance for imperfections, or for jobs that aim for the very highest surface quality.

When should I choose a different filler?

For large holes and tears, the long-fibre ZN-120 Fibreglass Filler gives better results; for zinc-coated galvanised surfaces, ZN-170 Galva Filler; and for panels exposed to heat, such as the bonnet, ZN-160 Aluminium Filler. ZN-150 is designed for general repairs outside these special cases.

How does it benefit my workshop?

Because you can work with one product from filling to finishing, there are fewer filler changes, fewer extra mixes to prepare and less waiting in between. Fewer products are needed on the shelf, stock control becomes easier and waste from part-used tins is reduced. These gains are most noticeable in high-volume workshops.
