Ideal for
Plastic parts such as bumpers, spoilers, mirror covers and sill covers are increasingly common on today's vehicles. Because these parts can have low surface energy and may carry mould release residues, getting paint to adhere permanently calls for different preparation from metal surfaces. The Plastic Part Repair System aims to solve this adhesion problem reliably through cleaning, scuffing and 1K Plastic Primer.
Applied wet-on-wet after the plastic primer, Joker Multi-Purpose Primer creates a uniform, single-shade base for the basecoat without the need for sanding. This eliminates the intermediate sanding step and also avoids the risk of sanding through the thin plastic primer layer. Finished with 2K Acrylic MS Clear Coat, the system offers a fast, repeatable workflow for painting new replacement parts and refurbishing lightly damaged ones.
For mixing ratios, drying and flash-off times, refer to each product's own Technical Data Sheet.
Cleaning
First wash the part with water and detergent and dry it, then wipe it with the thinner to remove mould release, grease and silicone residues. Do not let the thinner stay on the plastic surface for long; wipe it dry immediately with a clean cloth.
Scuffing
Scuff the entire surface thoroughly with P400 abrasive or a grey scuff pad, without missing corners and recesses. Remove the sanding dust and clean the part again.
Adhesion Primer
Apply the primer to the scuffed surface as a single thin, even coat; without sanding this coat, move on to the next layer after approximately 10–15 min at 20 °C. If you are unsure of the type of plastic, first carry out an adhesion test on a hidden area.
Wet-on-Wet Primer
Mix the primer with 2K Acrylic Primer Hardener (ZN-410) and Acrylic Thinner (ZN-510) and apply 1–2 coats over the plastic primer. Without sanding, move on to the basecoat within the waiting time specified in the Technical Data Sheet (TDS).
Basecoat
Once the primer's waiting time has elapsed, apply the colour-matched basecoat until opacity is achieved. Allow the basecoat to flash off to a fully matt finish before applying the clear coat.
Clear Coat
Mix the clear coat with 2K MS Hardener (ZN-430) and Acrylic Thinner (ZN-510) and apply 2 coats. When baking, support the part on a suitable stand so that it keeps its shape, and limit the temperature to 60 °C.
Combined with correct cleaning and scuffing, 1K Plastic Primer helps the paint layers adhere permanently to the plastic surface.
Applied wet-on-wet, Joker Multi-Purpose Primer eliminates the intermediate sanding step and shortens labour time.
A single-shade primer base helps the basecoat to cover in fewer coats and makes colour matching easier.
With short waiting times throughout, the system gets plastic parts ready for fitting sooner.
