Overview

What is Micro Fibreglass Filler?

ZN-125 Micro Fibreglass Filler is a two-component polyester filler reinforced with much finer micro glass fibres instead of the long fibres found in conventional fibreglass fillers. This structure retains the strength provided by fibre reinforcement while giving the filler a denser, more homogeneous texture. The result is a balanced, versatile repair filler that can be used at both the filling and the levelling stage.

The micro fibres leave no noticeable fibre texture on the surface; the cured filler forms a smooth, pore-free finish. It is much easier to sand than conventional fibreglass fillers, which reduces shaping time and abrasive paper consumption. Its flexible, durable structure offers a hybrid solution for areas exposed to vibration and slight flexing, such as door bottoms, wing edges and thin panels.

ZN-125 is positioned to fill the gap between the long-fibre ZN-120 Fibreglass Filler and ZN-110 Universal Polyester Filler. It can be used on its own for medium-depth damage, and on surfaces with a low tolerance for imperfections it can be finished with a thin coat of ZN-130 Soft Finishing Filler. After sanding, the surface is prepared for the paint system with ZN-210 4+1 Acrylic Primer Filler or ZN-220 5+1 HS Acrylic Primer.

Application

Step-by-step application

The recommended application sequence for a professional result.

  1. 01

    Surface preparation

Sand the repair area with P80 and feather the surrounding paint with P120–P150 to a smooth transition. On GRP surfaces, remove all gloss. Clean the surface with ZN-530 Surface Cleaning Thinner and allow it to dry.

  2. 02

    Mixing

Add 2–3% BPO hardener by weight and mix on a clean board, folding and pressing, until the colour is uniform. Avoid whipping the mixture so that no air bubbles form.

  3. 03

    Application

Start with a thin adhesion coat, then build up the fill at no more than 4 mm per coat. Use the mix within its pot life of 4–6 min.

  4. 04

    Drying

Ready to sand after 20–30 min at 20 °C, or after 3–5 min with short-wave IR. Curing takes longer at low temperatures.

  5. 05

    Sanding

Shape with P80–P120 and finish with P180–P240. Do not wet sand; use a guide coat to reveal any remaining unevenness.

  6. 06

    Finishing and priming

If necessary, apply a thin coat of ZN-130 Soft Finishing Filler. Prime the cleaned surface with ZN-210 4+1 Acrylic Primer Filler.

Storage and safety

  • Store in the closed original packaging at 5–25 °C in a dry, well-ventilated place.
  • Shelf life in unopened packaging is typically 12 months; close opened tins tightly after use.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight, heat and naked flames. The BPO hardener paste contains organic peroxide: protect it from heat and never dip a spreader contaminated with hardener into the filler tin.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area when mixing and sanding; wear gloves, safety goggles and at least an FFP2 dust mask. Always consult the product's Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Frequently asked

Questions about Micro Fibreglass Filler

How does it differ from a conventional fibreglass filler?

Thanks to its long fibres, ZN-120 Fibreglass Filler excels at bridging and filling heavy damage, but its surface remains rough and it is harder to sand. ZN-125, by contrast, retains strength through micro fibres while giving a much smoother surface that is easy to sand. It is the more practical choice for medium-depth damage and for panels that flex.

Does it need a separate finishing filler on top?

In most repairs, correctly sanded ZN-125 provides a closed surface that can be primed directly. On surfaces with a low tolerance for imperfections, such as those to be finished in dark and metallic colours, a thin coat of ZN-130 Soft Finishing Filler is recommended for final levelling.

Can it be used to close holes and tears?

It is suitable for very small defects. For bridging distinct holes and tears, the long-fibre ZN-120 Fibreglass Filler gives a more reliable result. In that case, ZN-125 can be used as a smooth intermediate levelling coat over the fill built up with ZN-120.
