Overview

What is Anti-Gravel Stone Chip Protector?

ZN-610 Anti-Gravel Stone Chip Protector is a single-component protective coating based on synthetic resin and rubber, developed to protect the areas of a vehicle that are close to the road and exposed to impacts, such as the underbody, wheel arches, sills and door bottoms. By forming a textured, elastic and durable layer on the surface, it protects the body against harsh road conditions and helps recreate the original factory stone chip texture.

The film remains elastic after drying and absorbs the energy of stone and gravel impacts, reducing damage to the paint and metal; it stays flexible without cracking under vibration and impact. The barrier it forms against road salt, moisture and mud helps delay the onset of corrosion. Thanks to its rubber content, it also contributes to sound deadening, helping to reduce stone noise from the wheel area and panel vibration (drumming).

ZN-610 is applied with an underbody coating (Schutz) gun; a fine or coarse texture can be achieved by varying the air pressure and spraying distance. Before application, the surface should be cleaned with ZN-530 Surface Cleaning Thinner and bare metal areas protected with a suitable primer such as ZN-250 Joker Multi-Purpose Primer. Once fully cured, it can be overcoated with 2K acrylic topcoat, or with basecoat and ZN-310 2K Acrylic Clear Coat, so that the textured area matches the vehicle's colour.

Key features

Application

Step-by-step application

The recommended application sequence for a professional result.

  1. 01

    Masking

Carefully mask the exhaust system, brake and suspension components, the engine and gearbox area, the tyres and all other surfaces that are not to be coated.

  2. 02

    Surface preparation

Wash and dry the surface; remove loose paint, rust and poorly adhering old coatings. Abrade painted surfaces to a matt finish and degrease them with ZN-530 Surface Cleaning Thinner; prime bare metal areas with ZN-250 Joker Multi-Purpose Primer and allow to dry.

  3. 03

    Prepare the product

Shake the container vigorously for at least 1–2 min before use and attach it to the gun. Make sure the product and surface temperatures are within 15–25 °C.

  4. 04

    Set the texture

Spray a test panel first; adjust the air pressure (approx. 3–5 bar) and the spraying distance to achieve the closest match to the original texture.

  5. 05

    Application

Apply 1–2 coats, allowing 10–15 min between coats. Avoid applying an excessively thick coat in one go; heavy coats prolong drying and can cause runs.

  6. 06

    Drying and painting

Carefully remove the masking before the product has fully dried. If the coating is to be painted, allow at least 24 h at 20 °C for full cure, then overcoat with 2K acrylic topcoat or a basecoat and clear coat system.

  7. 07

    Cleaning the equipment

Clean the gun and nozzle with a suitable thinner immediately after use; dried product can block the gun.

Storage and safety

  • Store in the original, tightly closed packaging at 5–25 °C in a dry, well-ventilated place; protect from direct sunlight.
  • Flammable product: keep away from heat, sparks and naked flames; apply only in a well-ventilated area.
  • Avoid breathing spray mist; wear suitable respiratory protection, gloves and eye protection.
  • Refer to the product's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed safety information.

Frequently asked

Questions about Anti-Gravel Stone Chip Protector

How do I adjust the texture of the coating?

The texture is set by the gun's air pressure and the spraying distance. To get the closest match to the original finish, first try different pressures and distances on a test panel, then apply to the repair area using the same settings.

Can the stone chip coating be painted over?

Yes. Once it has fully cured – at least 24 h at 20 °C – it can be overcoated with 2K acrylic topcoat or with basecoat and clear coat systems. The waiting time is longer for thick applications and at low temperatures; we recommend testing on a small area before painting.

Can it be applied to the exhaust and engine area?

No. ZN-610 is not suitable for hot surfaces. The exhaust system, engine, gearbox, brakes and moving parts must always be masked before application.
